In 2022, interiors are all about simplicity and sustainability. Calming, uncluttered spaces that don’t impact the environment are what it’s all about. We want to simplify our lives and be more mindful about what we buy and use. Here are two very different books that can inspire you to achieve this in your own home…

HERITAGE STYLE by Selina Lake

Heritage Style is Selina Lake’s 11th book and offers a modern take on traditional interiors – tapping into feelings of nostalgia and the use of vintage, antique and inherited furniture and decorative objects. The classic, yet contemporary style of the homes featured in the book, highlight the longevity of this kind of interior.

Heritage paint colours, well made furniture and carefully curated artwork and objects result in spaces that are not ‘in fashion’ but that are instead, timeless. As Selina says in the book, “My inspiration derives mostly from unique old buildings that have one foot in the past and one stepping into the future.” This is exactly how we can bring a modern twist to a classic space, by mixing the old with the new. Even if you don’t live in a period property, Selina will inspire you on how to introduce inherited objects or furniture and mix with a contemporary way of life.

Here’s a taster of some of the beautiful interiors to be found on the pages of Heritage Style

Bare plaster walls & architectural details in bedroom
reupholstered vintage chair in corner of a bedroom
a classic kitchen with dried flowers& baskets hanging up
a pink bathroom with roll top bath and vintage furniture
A pared back kitchen interior - old wooden table and open shelving

RELAXED LIVING HAPPY HOME by Atlanta Bartlett & Dave Coote

This book, by husband and wife team Atlanta and Dave, was first published in 2015 under the title Keep it Simple. It’s re-publication in 2022 proves that following a simple and timeless way of living never goes out of style, and the couple’s signature look of pared back, airy spaces punctuated with vintage finds, is just as relevant today as it was seven years ago.

The book touches on decluttering, storage, being in touch with nature and make do and mend, amongst other ideas which help us to decorate and style our homes in the most sustainable of ways. They encourage the reader to find their own style and use their home as a place of self expression, while providing lots of inspiration along the way. Beautiful photography by Polly Wreford makes every page a dream to pore over, too. Here’s a peek at just a few of those images…

Dining area with vintage furniture and objects
reclaimed wood kitchen cabinets and open shelving
white wood panelled living room with floral cushions on sofa
interior with old wooden doors and vintage items
a craft work space with vintage furniture

Buy Relaxed Living, Happy Home by Atlanta Bartlett & David Coote at your local book store or online.
