Earlier this week I announced the news that we are publishing an exciting extra edition of the magazine this year! We are celebrating ten years since I launched 91 Magazine online, and creating a really special issue felt like the perfect way to mark this milestone…
91 has evolved so much since I launched it back in October 2011. It began life as a free-to-read online magazine, with the first issue having just 54 pages. The design was very different to how it is now (I did it myself and as I’m not a trained designer, I think it showed!) if you fancy seeing how it was way back then, you can check out our issuu.com page where they were initially available. It’s slightly cringeworthy to share these now, but at the same time I think it’s a nice record to see how things have progressed.
The idea for this celebratory edition came to me in late 2019, and plans developed slowly from there, as we worked on it alongside the usual editions. We are now just a couple of weeks away from sending it to print and it is so exciting to see it come together. It is a much chunkier read than usual – with 200 pages and a thick textured fold-out cover with gold detailing. It is split into three sections – LIVE, WORK and EAT.
LIVE focusses on some beautiful home tours, styling inspiration and lifestyle themes, WORK highlights some gorgeous studio and shop tours plus profiles on makers and designers, while EAT is all about stunning restaurant and café spaces, recipes and other food-related features. I have included some creative people who have inspired me greatly over the years as well as some who I’ve only recently discovered. I didn’t want to have a specific ‘theme’ for it, but there are ideas of celebration, longevity and reflection running through.
The edition will publishing in June and it now available for pre-order. It is a limited print run and I’ve already sold around 1/5th of the stock I will have, so don’t delay in getting your order in. I’m hoping that some of our lovely stockists will also sell copies when it arrives in June. It is not part of our usual magazine subscription, so even if you’re subscribed, you will have to order this separately. It will also be available in digital format in June.
For now, here is a peek at a small selection of images featured inside. This project feels incredibly poignant for me and I truly have poured my heart and soul into creating what I hope is a really incredible magazine that you will cherish and return to time and again, like a favourite book.
